I gather identity was prime topic at the recent UK government CIO’s Council, and now has direct attention at the very top of government. Plus there’s a Kim Cameron profile in Network World’s review of the 50 most important networking people.
Kim’s blog is exemplary in bringing a diverse and sometimes cantankerous community along a shared path of learning with mutual respect. He is quoted saying of the identity community
“To me, it is clear that all their interests must be served for progress to be made. There is so much distrust across the industry. I try to keep away from any kind of ideology and aim right at what can happen”.
This sounds familiar to us at Ideal Government. Fellow blogger Doc Searls of the Linux Journal puts Kim’s achievement in perspective:
“Kim is the great includer. He is equally brilliant and engaging, first-rate as a technologist and as a human being.” Without Cameron “we’d be years away from where we got just in the last year.”
I wonder if the Home Office and Cabinet Office have ever met him? It would be dereliction of duty not to.
Finally - IEEE Spectrum declares its world-wide winners and losers for 2006 among IT projects. Guess which list the Home Office ID card project comes on. Ouch.

Don’t worry about. I was told by someone in the know that there are now 120 PA consultants on the project and that there will soon be 200. With that kind of management consulting expertise on hand, we’re going to have the best ID card in the world. Can one buy shares in PA Consulting?
