“Is this your last chance to read the truth?”

A kind relative* gives me a flier for Vernon Coleman‘s book “Living in a fascist country”

We are losing our freedom and our privacy...Britain and America are now fascist statesWhatever happened to democracy? Who is behind it all? How did we come to find ourselves in what politicians boast will be an everlasting war?

He claims to have sold 2m books and claims The Observer calls him “the calmest voice of reason”. But he also offers a rather absurd-sounding warning

When you read this book we strongly suggest that you draw the curtains and lock the doors. If you are discovered and questioned by the authorities we suggest you say you picked it up by mistake thinking it to be a railway timetable. Those readers who are particularly nervous might like ot take the book with them under the bedclothes and read it by torchlight

That’s not calm or reasonable at all. And his web site says that even UKIP now reject his inserts. He seems to suggest he’s being censored and that UKIP are turning pro-European.

Oh, this is all too weird. I’m interested to hear the voices of concern. But we do need to be calm, reasonable, measured, effective. Has anyone taken the trouble to read his stuff? Does he have a point?**

*Cheers Mum
** Phew, now I can throw the flier away.

  1. Such tendency is not only in America or Britain but also in Russia and Ukraine. We want anymore safety, and get less freedom

  2. Ah, Serg. Unlike our many correspondents who seem to be selling drugs and member-enhancing services, you seem to be selling cars. Sorry about you lack of political fredom, and I think we have all the cars we need thank you.

Ideal Government

Let's say what we want from e-enabled government. Let's observe government first-hand. Let's say "Wouldn't It Be Better If" (WIBBI). Become an ethnographer of bureaucracy today! It beats getting frustrated with public services.
