There’s a pattern of speeding cops being let off – see below. Oh – and this just in:
.
But surely these were emergencies?
Shropshire policeman doing 84mph in 30mph zone – cleared
Constable Mark Milton – 159mph on M54 and 131mph on an A-road – “assessing the vehivcle’s capabilities” – cleared
…and from a couple of years ago
Chief constable of Surrey’s driver (80+ odd in a 50mph limit – arresting officer decided not to prosecute taking into account all circumstances, state of road, traffic etc as I recall)
Jack Straw (then Home Secretary)’s driver, 103mph along the M5, no ticket
And some who took the rap
Harriet Harman – 99mph on the M4, will plead guilty
Someone called the Duke of Gloucester (can’t quite picture him) resigned from the IAM after getting 12 points
The police can’t earn respect if they flout with impunity laws that others have routinely and mechanically applied.
There’s an anti speed-camera site with a saucy poster rage and ratings on speeding related stories.
Imagine mobile phones with built-in speed cameras…a whole new world of sousveillance. Of course, in Milton’s case he filmed himself with his own onboard camera. Sort of auto-voyeurism.
