The case against Climbie caseworker Lisa Arthurworrey is overturned – which sounds like the redress of an injustice.

It reinforces the lesson that to understand services on the front line we have to understand not just what it’s like on the receiving end (which is hard enough, especially with a child victim) but also whether the front line staff are properly supported.

I wonder how the totally interconnected and online world will help us understand that. We need to hear her story, and a truthful version of general context. We wont get that from Haringey or from Whitehall. Public sector worker blogs would help, but they’re happening so slowly…

She tried to do her best…but the evil tribe put her on a list along with violent and sexual offenders which saw her banned from working with children. No action was taken against supervisors, managers, chief execs, councillors, civil servants, Ministers. And now we’re saddled with an astounding level of surveillance of children.

Amongst the acres of coverage on this ghastly case, there was surprisingly little comment that poor Victoria was apparently not in UK legally.

When our “authorities” seem unable to cope with the problems of UK nationals, it is unlikely that they will be able to cope with the extra problems of children smuggled into the UK.

New laws and regulations passed in reaction to media hysteria are usually ill considered and very poorly drafted.
