This Swiss article by Sylvie Gardel (Agefi.com) portrays the move towards “ID Management” as an exciting international business opportunity and as a necessary part of e-Government.

This raises several questions:
1. Do voters actually want those e-Government services which might require secure ID cards?
2. Is the price worth paying?
3. Are Governments over-reacting to threats?

In the past, many countries including the UK have spent too much and employed too many scarce resources on “defence projects.” The “Military Industrial Complex” in the USA has been accused of encouraging and benefiting from such expenditure.

Are we now in danger of devoting too much money and talent to “security projects?”
