WRITTEN ON November 27th, 2008 BY William Heath AND STORED IN Pertinent Art, What do we want?

I see Liberty, the various Rowntree trusts and OpenDemocracy are doing a Modern Liberty convention on Feb 29th CORRECTION – 28th – see below. Thx]. Looks great (shame I’ll be abroad). But it is a does have some materials, including the Pet Shop Boys Integral video which I’ve been looking for for ages.

Curious that it falls to a frankly often slightly dreary band (named after a bizarre sexual practice involving small animals) to articuate with their pertinent art what we really feel about this thoughtless rush to a database state that takes the welfare state and joins is up with coercive government at its least attractive. Go Pet Shop Boys! But hey! PetShopBoys: leave them rodents alone!

Thanks for the link Will, glad you like it. But it’s on the 28th not the 29th – it’s not a leap year!

It’s worth noting that NO2ID, one of the sponsors of Modern Liberty, are organising break-out sessions in Manchester and elsewhere which will feature live webcasts of the speeches in London combined with localised discussion groups.
