More feedback from the ground about top-down, centralised, one-size-fits all programmes to “computerise” the NHS. The Royal Free hospital in London – one of the initial pilot sites for the roll-out of patient records – tell us that the system didn’t work for them: and cost this one trust some £10m.

Kable’s lead analyst on the health IT market, Victor Almeida, concludes in England’s lost love for care records that “The ‘big-bang’ approach taken by the DH – whereby little or no regard is paid to past failures and a monstrous project is launched based on the naïve assumption that huge investments invariably translate into success – is largely to blame for this.”

Finger of blame clearly pointed, WIBBI HMG learnt the meaning of the word empowerment? Stop telling people what and how to do it and provide the rules to all them to deliver what’s best for the customer (lol who asked the customer about patient care records?).
